The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has reiterated its call for warring parties in Sudan to agree to a humanitarian truce during the holy month of Ramadan, emphasizing that such a move is crucial to alleviating the suffering of the Sudanese people, ensuring unhindered humanitarian aid access, and creating conditions for dialogue that could lead to a permanent ceasefire.

In a statement posted by its permanent mission to the United Nations on the platform “X,” the UAE welcomed the calls made by UN Security Council members during their session on February 26, 2025, urging for a Ramadan truce. The statement highlighted that the UAE was among the first nations to advocate for such a ceasefire.
Criticism of Attempts to Divert Attention from Humanitarian Violations
The statement also condemned what it described as “futile attempts” by Sudan’s representative to the UN to divert the Security Council’s attention from severe violations of international humanitarian law committed by the warring factions. It accused the Sudanese official of continuing to make “false allegations” against the UAE instead of focusing on the real humanitarian crisis. Abu Dhabi reaffirmed its unwavering support for Sudan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, expressing solidarity with the Sudanese people during their time of hardship.
Call for Responsibility in Ending the Conflict
The UAE stressed that only the warring parties have the power to put an end to the cycle of violence and suffering in Sudan. It urged them to heed the voice of reason and commit to a political process that could pave the way for a civilian-led government capable of steering the country toward stability and peace.
