The Repeated Scenario..!!

It seems that the leader of the coup committee, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, has somewhat succeeded in convincing some ordinary citizens—and even a few revolutionary voices—that he has distanced himself from the Islamist clique surrounding him. This illusion was orchestrated through his latest yet recycled speech, reminiscent of the old phrase, “Go to the palace as president, and I shall go to prison as a detainee.” His aim is to deceive the uninformed into believing in the national neutrality of the armed forces, the very institution he used to stage his coup against Sudan’s post-revolution civilian government. Having failed to gain public acceptance of the Islamists’ return under the guise of “national saviors,” he shifted tactics. Instead of justifying the coup through economic hardship—as was done in the past—he now frames it as a response to security concerns. This marks the first step in consolidating his rule, with the rest of the process unfolding gradually, just as his ideological predecessors have always done.

The calculated restraint displayed by Islamist leaders in response to Burhan’s harsh rhetoric—where he declared that their return would happen “only over the people’s dead bodies”—is not due to genuine belief in his words. Instead, it is a deliberate strategy to calm public anxieties before moving to the next phase. This next step has already begun, as evidenced by Burhan’s appointment of three Islamist figures, including Yasir Mohamed Ahmed—a former prosecutor for war crimes in Darfur under al-Bashir—as deputy attorneys general. This move lays the groundwork for a future exploitation of public confusion while intensifying an orchestrated media campaign against pro-democracy youth and civil forces, falsely accusing them of collaboration with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) during the war.

To avoid falling into this state of confusion, we must remain firmly convinced that Burhan and the Islamist network behind him have no intention of relinquishing power. His record proves him to be a shameless liar, unbound by promises or agreements, capable of shifting his stance at any moment. His proposal for elections in two years is merely a delaying tactic, no different from the rigged elections of the former Islamist regime. Even if such elections were to be held—which is doubtful—they would serve as nothing more than a cover for Islamists to reclaim power under the pretense of legitimacy, before ultimately being abandoned under various pretexts.

We cannot afford to wait or place faith in these empty assurances. Instead, we demand immediate action—Burhan and his coup apparatus must step down and hand over governance to a competent civilian leadership. He should return to the barracks as a military commander, forming a supervisory council of nationalist officers to oversee but not interfere in the affairs of a civilian government. A national council, comprising political actors, revolutionary youth, and Darfur movements, should be entrusted with shaping the country’s political direction. Additionally, leaders of armed groups involved in the war may be included for the sake of transparency.

Burhan’s speech, in its entirety, is nothing more than a blueprint for prolonging his rule—regardless of the timeframe he suggests. It is neither acceptable to the Sudanese revolutionary forces nor the international community, and it is utterly unrealistic given the current conditions unless he enforces it through brute force. If so, the cycle of repression will continue, with security forces unleashed to crush all dissent.

The only true path forward—the only guarantee against dictatorship—remains revolution.

Justice and accountability must prevail.

Glory and eternal peace to our martyrs.
