In a significant step towards ending the conflict and restoring stability in Sudan, political and civil forces, along with armed movements allied with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), are preparing to announce the formation of a Peace Government. This initiative aims to establish a new governance framework focused on ending the war and achieving national reconciliation.

Founding Charter Signing in Nairobi

The involved parties have announced that the signing ceremony for the Founding Charter for the Peace and Unity Government will take place on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre in Nairobi, Kenya. The event is expected to bring together representatives from political and civil groups, armed movements, and international and regional figures supporting peace efforts in Sudan.

International Guarantees and an Invitation to the Army

In previous statements, Al-Hadi Idris Yahya, Chairman of the Revolutionary Front and leader of the Sudan Liberation Movement - Transitional Council, emphasized that the new political charter aims to end the war and address the root causes of the crisis while reaffirming Sudan’s unity as a democratic and sovereign state.

He also stressed that the upcoming government would be a “Government of Peace for All Sudanese”, extending an invitation to the Sudanese army to join the initiative and sign the charter. Idris further revealed that several countries have provided guarantees to recognize the new government, enhancing its prospects for regional and international legitimacy.

Parallel Government Announcement and Political Repercussions

Following the signing of the charter, a parallel government is expected to be announced in RSF-controlled areas, a development that has sparked significant political debate. The move has already led to divisions within the Coordination of Democratic Civil Forces (Taqaddum), reflecting the broader political polarization in Sudan.

Future Prospects for Resolving the Crisis

Despite concerns about potential deepening divisions, supporters of the Peace Government argue that this initiative is designed to unify rather than divide the country by offering a comprehensive and viable political alternative. This step is widely seen as a serious attempt to end the war and promote dialogue between all Sudanese factions, including the army, to reach a lasting and peaceful resolution.

As Sudan navigates these critical developments, the key question remains: Will the Peace Government succeed in steering the country toward stability and unity? The coming days will reveal the answer.
