The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) announced on Thursday that they had shot down a Sudanese army Antonov aircraft in North Darfur. The RSF released a video showing the wreckage of the aircraft, claiming responsibility for the incident.

This development comes amid escalating tensions between the RSF and the Sudanese army, with frequent clashes reported between the two factions. The RSF has previously claimed responsibility for downing military aircraft, including an incident last October when a transport plane crashed in North Darfur.
Meanwhile, RSF leader Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti) stated on Sunday that the conflict with the army is far from over, reaffirming his forces’ intention to return to the capital, Khartoum. The RSF had withdrawn from most parts of Khartoum last month after the Sudanese army regained control of the city.
The ongoing conflict in Sudan has devastated large parts of Khartoum and displaced over 12 million people. Millions more continue to suffer from severe shortages of food and essential supplies.
