Dr. Anwar Gargash, Diplomatic Adviser to the UAE President, affirmed that there is no military solution to the ongoing conflict in Sudan, emphasizing the urgent need for a civilian-led government and the importance of learning from the mistakes of the past.

Gargash’s remarks came in response to an op-ed by former Sudanese Prime Minister Dr. Abdalla Hamdok, published in the Financial Times. In his commentary, Gargash praised Hamdok’s position, describing his voice as one of “reason and wisdom in the face of the chaos of war and the threat of division.”

He added, “A deep reading of Sudan’s history confirms that a military solution is not viable. There is no alternative to civilian governance — far from any attempts to replicate the defunct regime.”

In his article, Hamdok warned that Sudan is on the brink of collapse, citing the ongoing war’s devastating toll on the population, including millions displaced and the destruction of critical infrastructure and institutions. He noted that the current tragedy is not inevitable, but rather the outcome of decades of exclusionary policies and political mismanagement.

These statements come amid intensifying conflict in Sudan, with growing regional and international calls for a ceasefire and a return to the negotiating table to seek a sustainable and peaceful resolution to the crisis.
