In a serious escalation of tensions between Chad and Sudan, the Chadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned recent statements made by General Yasir Al-Atta, Deputy Commander of the Sudanese Armed Forces, describing them as a “declaration of war” that threatens Chad’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

In an official statement released late Sunday night, Chadian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ibrahim Adam Mohamed warned that such remarks could lead to a dangerous escalation in the region. He emphasized Chad’s legitimate right to defend itself against any aggression, regardless of its source.
The statement also accused successive Sudanese regimes of pursuing destabilization strategies against Chad for years, including supporting insurgencies and aiding extremist groups like Boko Haram.
Chad reaffirmed that the ongoing conflict in Sudan is an internal matter for which the warring factions are solely responsible. The government rejected any claims that Chad had contributed to Sudan’s crisis, arguing that the country’s turmoil stems from the irresponsibility of its own leadership.
Despite these threats, Chad reiterated its commitment to peace and restraint, relying on the strength of its military and its dedication to stability. The government also expressed its willingness to cooperate with any party genuinely seeking to restore peace in Sudan.
Chad has already provided refuge to hundreds of thousands of Sudanese fleeing the conflict, demonstrating its commitment to regional stability and humanitarian solidarity.
As tensions rise, the international community is urged to intervene and prevent further deterioration of relations between the two neighboring nations.
