The head of the African Union’s High-Level Panel on Sudan, Mohamed Ibn Chambas, has described the ongoing war in Sudan as “the world’s worst humanitarian crisis,” highlighting its devastating impact on civilians, particularly children suffering from severe malnutrition.
In a statement posted on Platform X on Tuesday, Ibn Chambas emphasized that the conflict has disrupted humanitarian aid access, leading to severe food shortages and worsening hunger across the country.
Widespread Displacement and Heavy Human Losses
According to international reports, Sudan’s war has claimed the lives of tens of thousands of peopleand displaced approximately 15 million, forcing them to flee their homes in search of safety and aid.

Sudan has been grappling with a worsening conflict since April 2023, with humanitarian organizations warning that restrictions on aid deliveries are deepening the crisis and exacerbating civilian suffering.
Calls for Urgent International Intervention
As the war continues and conditions deteriorate, international and regional organizations are increasingly calling for urgent intervention to end the conflict, ensure the delivery of humanitarian assistance, and protect vulnerable populations—especially children facing the risk of famine.
This warning from the African Union is among a series of escalating alerts from humanitarian agencies regarding Sudan’s crisis, amid growing concerns that the situation will continue to spiral without an effective political resolution.
